Wallis on Negative Numbers

Wallis in his 1665 book Arithmetical Infinitorum argued that \frac{a}{0}=+\infty and \frac{a}{b}=c,b<0 is a negative number then c > +\infty because b <0 so \frac{a}{b} > \frac{a}{0}. Thus negative number is simultaneously both less than zero and greater than infinity.
